Breaking News: Birmingham City agree Mowbray’s first signing after breakthrough
Birmingham City have reached an agreement to bring in Queens Park Rangers midfielder Andre Dozzell on loan for the remainder of the 2023-24 season, according to sources from Football Insider.
The 24-year-old player is poised to be the first signing made by Birmingham manager Tony Mowbray since taking on the role earlier this month. The deal has been finalized with both Dozzell and QPR after successful negotiations, with the player’s father, former Premier League midfielder Jason Dozzell, playing a role in facilitating the move.
In the ongoing 2023-24 season, Dozzell has made 27 appearances in various competitions, contributing two goals and one assist. He had an eight-match starting streak in the Championship from the beginning of December but was on the bench for the 2-1 loss to Cardiff on January 14.
Originally from Ipswich, Dozzell began his career with the Tractor Boys, amassing 93 appearances before moving to west London in 2021. Although his current contract with QPR expires at the end of the season, the club holds a one-year extension clause.
Birmingham City currently occupies the 20th position in the Championship standings after 27 games, with a seven-point cushion from the relegation zone. Mowbray, in his recent tenure, secured a draw in his first second-tier game against Swansea on January 13.
On the other hand, Queens Park Rangers, managed by Martí Cifuentes, finds themselves in 23rd place in the league table.
