Breaking News: Auburn Basketball confirms the commitment of Another Superstar
The Auburn Tigers have successfully recruited a McDonald’s All-American player. Despite having only two commitments and a national ranking of 27, Auburn’s upcoming season is anticipated to benefit from the contributions of the two 4-star prospects.
In particular, the addition of Tahaad Pettiford is seen as a significant asset for Auburn in the upcoming season, as he has recently become the top-ranked point guard in the 2024 class. This recognition earned him a place on the 2024 McDonald’s All-American Roster.
Pettiford joins the East roster alongside three other SEC signees, including John Bol from Ole Miss and Jayden Quaintance and Boogie Fland from Kentucky. On the West roster, Alabama signees Derrion Reid and Aiden Sherrell will be participating in the event.
Rated as a 5-star guard in the 247Sports composite ratings, Pettiford opted for the Tigers over other notable programs like UConn, Kansas, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Seton Hall, and UCLA.
Pettiford’s playing style aligns with the typical mold of Bruce Pearl’s point guards – although undersized, he possesses a smooth ball-handling ability and is entertaining in transition. As a left-handed player, he is expected to be a valuable addition to Auburn’s 2024 backcourt, especially if there are gaps left by Aden Holloway, Tre Donaldson, or both players.
According to Adam Finkelstein, the director of scouting at 247Sports, Pettiford is described as “fast, quick, and possesses a ton of pace in his game, constantly applying pressure on opposing defenses.” Despite being undersized, he has a wiry build, is long and athletic, and displays an elastic quality in the way he maneuvers his body. Finkelstein notes that Pettiford is versatile, excelling both as a point guard and in an off-ball role.
