JUST IN: Five-star guard puts Auburn in top schools with visit in days
Auburn is gearing up to welcome a highly sought-after combo guard for an upcoming visit. Coach Bruce Pearl and the Auburn coaching staff have shifted their focus to recruiting for the 2025 class, following the successful addition of Tahaad Pettiford, the top-ranked point guard in the 2024 class by 247Sports. The Tigers, having established themselves as one of the premier programs in the SEC, find it increasingly easier to attract top-tier talent.
Jasper Johnson, currently ranked as the 12th best player in the 2025 class by 247Sports composite rankings, is a key target for Coach Pearl and his team. Standing at 6’4″ and weighing 170 pounds, Johnson, a talented left-handed shooter, has recently narrowed down his list of prospective schools to ten, including Auburn, Kansas, Alabama, Baylor, Kentucky, Missouri, Louisville, North Carolina, USC, and West Virginia.
Scheduled to visit the Plains on the weekend of February 17th, coinciding with the Tigers’ game against the Kentucky Wildcats, Johnson presents an exciting opportunity for Auburn. Despite facing competition from other schools, Coach Pearl and his coaching staff are determined to secure Johnson’s commitment.
According to a scouting report by Joe Tipton of On3, Johnson possesses impressive size and length as a left-handed player with deep shooting range extending beyond the three-point arc. While excelling in catch-and-shoot situations and one/two-dribble pull-ups, Johnson could refine his ball handling, particularly in the paint. The report notes his crafty lay-up skills, solid explosive capabilities, and confidence on the court. Johnson’s father’s football background at Kentucky, including an NFL career, adds an intriguing dimension to his athletic lineage.
Despite trailing behind a few other schools in the race for Johnson’s commitment, Auburn is poised to make significant strides during his visit. Coach Pearl’s influence and the Tigers’ strong program are expected to play a crucial role in convincing Johnson to choose Auburn.
