The Milwaukee Brewers are not sitting idly by as top free agents sign with other teams, especially since they are the reigning NL Central champions and are determined to defend their title. In their pursuit of another championship, the Brewers recognized the need to bolster their roster, particularly by adding a right-handed power hitter.

Their target, Rhys Hoskins, has now officially joined the team on a two-year contract, featuring a player opt-out option after the 2024 season. Despite missing the entire 2023 season due to a torn ACL, the Brewers are optimistic about the impact Hoskins can bring to their lineup.

Hoskins' Brewers deal includes opt-out after 2024 season

Hoskins’ departure from Philadelphia was expected after the announcement that Bryce Harper would be taking over as the Phillies’ first baseman in 2024. Despite this change, Hoskins, with six seasons under his belt, is poised to continue contributing significantly. Over his career, he has accumulated 148 home runs, averaging 36 home runs per season over a 162-game span.

Beyond his power at the plate, Hoskins also possesses a keen batting eye, consistently ranking high in walks. In 2019, he led the league with 116 walks, and he has consistently walked at least 71 times in each of his four full MLB seasons.

While Hoskins might not be known for his defensive prowess, potentially posing a challenge in the field, the Brewers have the option of utilizing him as a designated hitter if necessary.

All in all, the addition of Rhys Hoskins is viewed as an underrated yet impactful signing for the Brewers, strengthening their lineup and positioning them well for competitive play in the 2024 season.
