Breaking News: Buffalo Bills ‘expected’ to make big offseason move that will cause bigger issues with star player

The Buffalo Bills came close to defeating the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs, with Josh Allen experiencing another round of playoff heartbreak. This setback might have significant consequences for one of the key players in the Bills’ lineup, potentially leading to increased turmoil.

Over the past two seasons, Buffalo committed heavily, sacrificing long-term cap space and draft picks to construct a roster capable of winning a championship. However, falling short in the Divisional Round for the third consecutive year suggests that the Bills may face a talent drain in the upcoming NFL offseason.

Peter King of NBC Sports, in his Football Morning in America column, anticipates that Bills’ general manager Brandon Beane will undertake “major surgery” on Stefon Diggs’ contract. This move is expected to create additional challenges with the team’s discontented top wide receiver. The necessity to address Diggs’ contract arises due to Buffalo’s cap constraints, with Diggs carrying the second-largest cap hit on the team, surpassed only by Allen’s ($47.056 million). Given Diggs’ performance in the latter half of the regular season, an extension seems improbable for the 31-year-old.

While NFL regulations allow the Bills to make minor adjustments to Diggs’ contract without his permission, significant changes that would yield substantial cap savings would require his approval. Currently, the Bills are likely to retain their No. 1 receiver. However, the management of the situation by Beane and the handling of Diggs’ contract may impact the dynamics later in the offseason.
