Breaking News: Coach Prime sends strong message on star Colorado football son, Travis Hunter
Coach Prime delivered a powerful statement on the potential of two star Colorado football players, Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter, during a lecture for CU’s “Prime Time: Public Performance and Leadership” class. He confidently asserted that both players would be the top two picks in the 2025 NFL draft.
“We got, proposedly, the first and second pick of the whole draft, Shedeur and Travis, so every NFL scout is coming, but they’re not just gonna come for that, because I want them to see the smorgasbord of players that we have and the operation that we have,” Sanders expressed, emphasizing the depth of talent within the team beyond just his son and Hunter (h/t USA Today).
While Hunter’s exceptional two-way talent speaks for itself and doesn’t require specific scheming, Coach Prime also shed light on Shedeur’s development, highlighting the broader success and capabilities of the entire team.
Colorado football not pursuing many underclassmen because of Shedeur Sanders
Coach Prime’s recruiting philosophy, known as the 40-40-20 rule, focuses on acquiring 40% transfers, 40% grad transfers, and only 20% freshmen for his recruiting classes. This strategy was elucidated during his debut lecture in Boulder, where he emphasized the need for experienced talent to support his son, Shedeur, a pro-style quarterback.
Sanders explained, “When you inherited a roster like we inherited a roster, you can’t deal with high school kids that much because it takes them probably a couple of years to develop, and you’ll be fired in a couple years. You don’t have that kind of time.” He highlighted the preference for recruiting sophomores in college who are already acclimated to the demands of collegiate life.
The rationale behind this approach is to avoid overwhelming the team with freshmen, as it can lead to a challenging season. Particularly for a pro-style quarterback like Shedeur, working with seasoned players, such as Xavier Weaver and Jimmy Horn Jr., proved instrumental in ensuring a successful passing game during Colorado’s 2023 season. Shedeur emerged as a bright spot on the team, and the presence of veteran stars undoubtedly contributed to his development.
