Breaking News: 65-Years Old Sends Crucial Message To Oakland Athletics
The commissioner of Major League Baseball is proposing that Oakland A’s fans simply support their cross-town rivals, the Giants, as a solution to the team’s impending relocation. This suggestion comes from Rob Manfred, known for controversial statements such as dismissing the World Series trophy as “just a piece of metal” and his handling of the recent cheating scandal within the sport.
During a media appearance in Tampa, Manfred addressed questions about the A’s relocation and suggested that fans could continue supporting baseball by backing the Giants, who still play in the Bay Area. He emphasized the league’s commitment to community programs and noted that another team would still be accessible for fans, seemingly downplaying the significance of the A’s departure.
However, this proposal overlooks the deep-seated loyalty and rivalry dynamics inherent in sports fandom. Asking fans to switch allegiance to a longtime rival ignores the emotional investment and history fans have with their respective teams. It’s a simplistic solution that fails to acknowledge the complex relationships fans have developed over years or even decades.
This approach reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of sports fandom on Manfred’s part. Instead of addressing the concerns and sentiments of A’s fans, it appears to prioritize logistical convenience and corporate interests. This stance further adds to Manfred’s controversial legacy as commissioner, characterized by mishandling major issues within the sport and making tone-deaf statements.
Despite Manfred’s efforts to present a positive narrative around the A’s relocation, the proposal to shift allegiances is unlikely to resonate with fans who have built strong connections to their team. It underscores a disconnect between the league’s leadership and the passionate fan base it serves.
I will NEVER be a Giants fan, Loyal fans DON’T switch sides I was born and raised in Oakland, was Sal Bando’s Paper boy, worked for the A’s, been to over 500 games, been to all 30 ballparks & Cooperstown.
They should give Fisher the expansion team in Vegas, and let Lacob pay Fisher 1.5 billion, so he can pay for the New Vegas expansion team, and Build a Ballpark in Oakland, and Keep the A’s where they belong.
Bryce Harper and Bryson Stott, both Vegas born, say the A’s should stay, A.J. Pierzynski also states that the A’s belong in Oakland Vegas’ own Mayor says they need to stay in Oakland. All you have to do is look at Fishers other team, The San Jose earthquakes, (NEW STADIUM) still last in Payroll, and at the bottom of the standings in the last 20 years, sound familiar ?? (No MLB team has been in 4 cities) (Braves 3)
