The Georgia Bulldogs are making waves as 11 draft-eligible former players have received coveted invitations to the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, scheduled to take place in Indianapolis from Thursday, February 29 through Sunday, March 3. Among those receiving invitations are notable names such as Daijuan Edwards and Kendall Milton in the running back position, Ladd McConkey and Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint as wide receivers, Brock Bowers as a tight end, Amarius Mims as an offensive tackle, Sedrick Van Pran-Granger representing the interior offensive line, Zion Logue on the defensive line, and defensive backs Javon Bullard, Kamari Lassiter, and Tykee Smith.

This impressive showing places Georgia tied for fourth among schools with the most combine invitations, standing alongside Texas with 11 representatives. Ahead of them are Florida State with 12 and Washington with 13, while Michigan leads the pack with a record-breaking 18 invitations.

Georgia’s prominence in the combine reflects their continued success in producing top-tier talent for the NFL. While the Bulldogs set the record for the most players drafted from one school in the 2022 NFL Draft, this record might be challenged by Michigan this year, depending on the performance of lower-tier players throughout the scouting process.

Carson Beck’s new ride

College sports are undergoing significant changes, and perhaps one of the most noticeable shifts is the newfound ability for star athletes, such as quarterbacks, to openly display the luxurious cars they receive. In the case of Carsen Beck, who reportedly owns a Lamborghini Urus Performante, it remains unclear whether the vehicle was gifted by a dealership, purchased outright, or acquired through a lease. Nevertheless, the implementation of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) rules has undoubtedly transformed Beck’s college experience in Athens into a lucrative one.

Despite being eligible to join his 11 teammates in preparation for the NFL combine and potentially declaring for the 2024 NFL draft, Beck’s decision to return to Georgia for another season may have been influenced by the various perks afforded by NIL opportunities, such as the possession of extravagant assets like his Lamborghini. This indicates the growing impact of NIL on the decisions made by collegiate athletes regarding their future career paths.

College sports news

After securing a narrow 73-71 victory over Missouri State, the Indiana State Sycamores extended their impressive season record to 22-3. As a result of their strong performance, they were ranked No. 23 in the AP Poll on Monday, marking the first time since 1979 that Indiana State has earned such a ranking. This achievement harkens back to the legendary season led by Larry Bird, where the team finished with a remarkable 33-1 record, with Bird himself averaging 28.6 points, 14.9 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game. Notably, their sole loss that season came against Michigan State and Magic Johnson in the national championship game.

However, the Sycamores’ ranking may be short-lived. On Tuesday, they suffered a surprising defeat to Illinois State, losing 80-67 despite being favored by 17.5 points. Illinois State, entering the game with an 11-14 record and 5-9 in Missouri Valley Conference play, dealt a significant blow to Indiana State’s aspirations of maintaining their newfound ranking.
