BREAKING NEWS: Denver Broncos Make Another Intriguing Selection In Recent NFL Mock Draft
“Practically everyone acknowledges that the Denver Broncos are desperate for a quarterback, especially with Sean Payton’s apparent connection with Russell Wilson likely leading to Wilson’s exit from the team. This leaves many Broncos fans wondering who will step into Wilson’s shoes as the team’s signal-caller. Although the team hasn’t disclosed their plans, it’s evident they’re searching for a competent QB. One potential route they might take is through the NFL Draft, with a recent mock draft suggesting they could snag a quarterback in a noteworthy spot.”
Mock draft predicts Denver Broncos to select Spencer Rattler in later rounds
According to Broncos Wire’s Jon Heath, Curt Popejoy of Draft Wire foresees the Broncos taking a chance on South Carolina QB Spencer Rattler in the third round. Despite seeming unconventional, the reasoning behind this choice indicates it’s more out of necessity rather than a lack of other viable prospects:
Popejoy’s mock draft has the Broncos picking Alabama pass rusher Dallas Turner in the first round. Following this, Denver’s next selection opportunity doesn’t come until the third round due to their second-round pick being traded to the New Orleans Saints as part of a deal involving Sean Payton last year.
In the third round, the Broncos opt for South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler. During this timeframe, four other quarterbacks are chosen between the picks of Turner (No. 12) and Rattler (No. 76): Michael Penix (No. 39), Bo Nix (No. 42), J.J. McCarthy (No. 43), and Michael Pratt (No. 74).
Rattler, initially gaining attention as a standout in QB1: Beyond the Lights Season 3, had a commendable season with the Gamecocks to cap off his collegiate career. He tallied 3186 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, 8 interceptions, and a 147.7 passer rating in 12 starts.
Should Payton select him as the best available quarterback in the draft, it must be understood that he would enter as a developmental project and may not experience the smoothest start to his career. However, there’s potential for significant growth if he can integrate well with his teammates and coaching staff.
