The Milwaukee Brewers are nearing an agreement with former All-Star catcher Gary Sanchez, despite initial concerns about his wrist health.

After a delay in finalizing the deal due to lingering worries over Sanchez’s right wrist, it’s reported that he may accept a lower base salary with incentives to reach the original $7 million if he maintains good health. The proposed contract also includes a mutual option for the 2025 season.

Sanchez, expected to split time between catcher and designated hitter for the Brewers, played 72 games for the Padres last season following a brief stint with the New York Mets. While his batting average has been low in recent years, he remains a consistent power hitter, hitting 19 home runs in 2023 while batting .218.

A nine-year veteran with experience playing for the New York Yankees, Minnesota Twins, Mets, and Padres, Sanchez earned two All-Star selections during his tenure with the Yankees. Initially part of the “Baby Bombers” alongside Aaron Judge and Luis Severino, Sanchez has amassed 173 home runs in his career with a .225 batting average.

The Brewers, who won the National League Central last season but were eliminated in the playoffs by the Arizona Diamondbacks, are looking to bolster their roster with Sanchez’s addition.
