JUST IN: 25-year-old driver set to stay in F1 for ‘foreseeable future’ despite not new deal being announced
Lawrence Stroll may face a significant decision regarding Lance’s future in Formula 1. According to a report from Motorsport.com, aside from Max Verstappen and George Russell, Stroll is the only driver confirmed for the next season, outside of Ferrari and McLaren.
While it’s understood why Stroll remains in this position, no official announcement has been made regarding his future, despite the likelihood of him staying with Aston Martin as long as his father remains chairman.
It would be unfair to suggest that Stroll doesn’t merit his place in Formula 1. He has achieved a pole position and secured several podium finishes, in addition to winning the Formula 3 title before joining Williams in 2017.
However, when competing against the likes of Fernando Alonso and with numerous talented rookies struggling to break into the sport — such as Felipe Drugovich, the 2022 F2 champion — doubts inevitably arise regarding one’s position.
Stroll himself has acknowledged the need for improvement this season, and his full fitness entering pre-season testing, following wrist injuries last year, is certainly advantageous.
Nevertheless, considering Alonso accounted for all eight of Aston Martin’s podiums in 2023, Stroll must ensure he shares the responsibility of propelling the team up the Constructors’ Championship standings.
