Jerrell Powe, a former defensive linesman for the Kansas City Chiefs, is facing what could be the most significant outcome of his life as a Mississippi grand jury has apparently chosen not to indict the 36-year-old. In 2023, Powe was arrested and accused of kidnapping, but it seems he may now escape imprisonment for the charge.

Grand Jury Will NOT Indict Former Kansas City Chiefs DL Jerrell Powe

As per an ESPN report by the Associated Press, Jerrell Powe’s attorney, Tom Fortner, disclosed the court’s decision on his client’s case. Fortner informed The Associated Press in December that he had been notified by the Madison County district attorney’s office that a grand jury had chosen not to indict Powe, thus averting a trial. Grand jury proceedings are typically held in private.

The allegations against Powe stem from an incident in Laurel, Mississippi, where he and another individual were purportedly involved in kidnapping a man. They were apprehended at a bank in Ridgeland, a suburb of Jackson, after the victim claimed he had been forcibly taken against his will.

Powe’s NFL career commenced in 2011 when he was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the sixth round. After spending three years with the Chiefs, he joined the Houston Texans in 2014. During his tenure with the Chiefs, Powe, a standout from Mississippi, participated in 12 games and earned one start in 2013.
