Castillo’s 2023 season was nothing short of remarkable, as he achieved a record-breaking performance. He successfully connected on 46 of 51 field goal attempts, boasting an impressive 90.2% accuracy rate, which set a new standard for the Blue Bombers. Notably, Castillo maintained a flawless record from inside the 40-yard line, going 31 of 31. Additionally, he demonstrated his proficiency from longer distances, hitting 15 of 20 attempts from beyond the 40-yard line and four of 6 from 50 yards-plus, with a season-long of 53 yards.
His stellar performance continued into the playoffs, where Castillo showcased his reliability. He went 3 of 5 in the Western Final and successfully converted his only attempt in the Grey Cup, extending his streak in championship games to six. This streak began with a flawless performance in the Blue Bombers’ 2021 victory over Hamilton in the title game, where he went 5 of 5.
Throughout his CFL career spanning 77 games, Castillo has demonstrated consistent excellence, boasting a career field goal percentage of 86.7% (170-196). He has previously played for various CFL teams, including the Ottawa REDBLACKS (2016), Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2017), B.C. Lions (2019), and Edmonton Elks (2022). Castillo earned recognition as a CFL All-Star during his tenure with the Lions in 2019. Additionally, he has gained professional experience with NFL teams such as the New York Jets (2020) and has played in the XFL with the Houston Roughnecks (2020) and the Alliance of American Football with the San Antonio Commanders.
