After spending four seasons in the NFL as an undrafted rookie, Bryce Huff finds himself heading into free agency for the first time. Currently, the New York Giants appear to be a fitting destination for the edge player, with a projected contract of $36.8 million for the upcoming season.

In the previous season, the Giants struggled, ranking 30th in offense and 26th in defense among the 32 teams. Compounded by significant injuries to key players like Daniel Jones, who suffered a torn ACL in Week 9 against the Las Vegas Raiders, New York ended with a disappointing 6-11 record in the NFC East division.

This underscores the pressing need for the Giants to enhance their offense during the offseason. Alongside addressing the quarterback position, bolstering the overall lineup is imperative. To this end, the Giants have several free agents under consideration, including Bryce Huff of the New York Jets, who has emerged as one of the most promising players in recent years.

Why The New York Giants Must Consider Bryce Huff In Free Agency

For his inaugural venture into free agency, Huff is anticipated to command a salary exceeding $30 million for the upcoming season. Aaron Schatz, in his article for ESPN, outlines why it’s crucial for the Giants to snatch the edge rusher away from their crosstown rivals, the Jets.

Despite the Giants ranking 11th in pass rush win rate last season at 44.5%, indicating a relatively solid performance, there’s still room for improvement opposite Kayvon Thibodeaux. Schatz argues that acquiring Huff from the Jets could provide the upgrade needed in that position.

Despite starting only seven games in his career, Huff has garnered attention as a somewhat hidden gem, boasting a pass rush win rate of 21.4% off the edge last season (ranked eighth), and an impressive 30.7% in 2022. With players like Azeez Ojulari and Boogie Basham already on contract, the Giants could increase Huff’s snap count without risking overexertion.

Should the Giants succeed in securing Huff’s signature, they’d offer him the opportunity to elevate his game to the next level, all while maintaining a strong roster for the upcoming season.

Completing this acquisition could prove to be a strategic move for New York in the weeks ahead. Given Huff’s consistent performance during his tenure with the Jets, there’s ample justification for the Giants to make a move for the edge rusher.
