Breaking News: Giants Reportedly Announced The Signing Of Another Key Star
Reports indicate that San Francisco has secured the services of the hard-throwing former Boston Red Sox reliever. The San Francisco Giants are taking a chance on this former Red Sox player.
Justin Garza, a former pitcher for the Red Sox, has been seeking his next opportunity since opting for free agency in November after declining a minor league assignment. According to KPRC 2 Houston’s Ari Alexander, Garza has now inked a minor league contract with the Giants.
” The Giants have signed reliever Justin Garza to a minor league contract,” mentioned Alexander. “Garza, known for his 95 MPH fastball along with a cutter, changeup, and slider, has appeared in 38 Major League Baseball games with the Guardians and Red Sox.”
Boston acquired Garza off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels early in the 2023 season, where he made 17 appearances at the major league level. During this period, Garza recorded a 7.36 ERA with a 17-to-12 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 18 1/3 innings pitched.
Last season, Garza participated in 24 games with the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox, posting a 4.82 ERA and a 28-to-14 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 28 innings pitched. Despite this, the 29-year-old right-hander still possesses a formidable fastball that reaches close to 100 miles per hour. He demonstrated more promise at the major league level during his tenure with the Cleveland Guardians in 2021, where he amassed a 4.71 ERA across 21 appearances.
The San Francisco Giants have been actively seeking ways to bolster their roster throughout the offseason, and adding a veteran with major league potential on a minor league contract is seen as a beneficial move.
