BEARKING: Sheffield Wednesday receive selection boost after hitting key figure against Leeds United
Barry Bannan, the captain of Sheffield Wednesday, has escaped the threat of a two-game suspension. Bannan had been walking a disciplinary tightrope for the past month, having accumulated his ninth yellow card of the season in the previous month’s victory over Birmingham City. Another yellow card would have resulted in a two-match ban, had it been received by the 37th game.
Despite Sheffield Wednesday’s 2-0 defeat to Leeds United at Hillsborough on Friday night, there was a silver lining as Bannan managed to avoid receiving a caution, ensuring his availability for the remaining nine matches of the season.
However, the team’s manager, Danny Röhl, was not as fortunate, as he was booked during the match. Röhl expressed frustration with some of the officiating but humorously remarked that he preferred receiving the booking himself over his captain. Reflecting on his booking, Röhl attributed it to the emotional intensity of the game, particularly referencing a contentious duel before half-time that stirred his emotions.
