BREAKING: Newcastle United recruitment decision made after £171m investment & Man Utd swoop
Newcastle United recently underwent a minor adjustment internally after Dan Ashworth resigned from his position as sporting director. Andy Howe, who happens to be the nephew of Newcastle’s head coach Eddie, has been promoted to the new role of assistant head of first-team recruitment.
In his new position, Howe will collaborate with head of recruitment Steve Nickson in the task of identifying potential transfer prospects for the club. This change occurred as Ashworth was put on gardening leave due to an approach from Manchester United. As Newcastle gears up to find Ashworth’s replacement and negotiate compensation with Manchester United, subtle modifications are underway within the club.
Howe, previously serving as Newcastle’s head of technical scouting, will retain his responsibilities, according to Eddie Howe. The alteration in title does not alter his essential role, which has been crucial in the recruitment of significant players for Newcastle since his arrival.
Eddie Howe emphasized Howe’s significant contributions, citing his involvement in approximately £170 million worth of transfers for Newcastle United. The coach praised Howe’s role in recruiting key players like Bruno Guimaraes, Tino Livramento, Sandro Tonali, Harrison Ashby, and Anthony Gordon.
Regarding any changes prompted by Ashworth’s departure, Eddie Howe clarified that there have been none. He affirmed that the club’s recruitment processes, methods, and strategies remain unaffected by Ashworth’s exit.
