Breaking News: few more thoughts about the Athletics’ proposed move to Las Vegas
Last week, I penned an article critiquing the renderings depicting a potential new stadium in Las Vegas for the Athletics, who are considering relocating to the Nevada city.
Regrettably, my article contained inaccuracies regarding these renderings. I apologize for these errors and encourage you to read Maury Brown’s Forbes article for a more comprehensive understanding of the facts surrounding the renderings.
Earlier this week, I declared my intention to cease further discussion on this contentious topic due to its divisive nature on this platform. However, I felt compelled to address the aforementioned issues. I trust we can now move forward.
That being said, I maintain my belief that the renderings in question, one of which is displayed above, are “aspirational.” Should a stadium for the A’s be constructed in Las Vegas, I doubt it will resemble the depicted designs. Moreover, after considering Maury Brown’s interview with A’s president Dave Kaval, I remain skeptical about the likelihood of this relocation.
The uncertainty regarding the A’s venue for next year, given their Oakland Coliseum lease expiration at the end of 2024, adds further complexity. MLB is already crafting the 2025 schedule, expected to be released shortly after the All-Star break, which is approximately four months away.
Kaval and A’s owner John Fisher have found themselves in a challenging situation. It will be intriguing to observe how they address it. Presently, I would estimate the odds of the team relocating to Las Vegas at only around 50/50.
Once again, I apologize for the inaccuracies in last week’s article concerning the renderings.
