BREARKING: Newcastle United refusing to offer 30-year-old new contract
Newcastle United’s goalkeeper Loris Karius is set to depart the club after this season, as per a recent report from Football Insider. Despite Karius’s contract expiring in June, manager Eddie Howe has decided against extending his stay at St. James’ Park, denying the 30-year-old the opportunity to continue with the team.
Newcastle United won’t renew Loris Karius contract
Recruited as a budget-friendly emergency goalkeeper in response to Nick Pope’s extended absence due to a shoulder injury, Karius was brought in with the expectation of providing cover. Despite limited action, he has had little opportunity to make an impact, and his only two appearances for the team have concluded unfavorably.
Given the responsibility of facing Manchester United in the Carabao Cup final last season, Karius found himself on the losing end once more as Newcastle succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at Wembley. His sole other appearance came in a match against Arsenal last month, where Newcastle suffered a 4-1 loss.
Karius isn’t the sole disappointment in Newcastle’s season. The team as a whole has faced considerable challenges, prompting manager Eddie Howe to plan a significant squad overhaul for the upcoming season. Regrettably for Karius, he is unlikely to be part of Howe’s plans for the future, meaning he will find himself a free agent for the second consecutive year.
