BREAKING: Oakland important star returns to Athletics starting lineup for first time since 2022
This afternoon, the Oakland Athletics are scheduled to take on the Padres at Peoria Stadium, with first pitch set for 1:05 pm PST. Stephen Piscotty, making his first appearance with the major league club this spring, will be starting in right field for the Athletics after his last appearance with the team dating back to 2022.
Piscotty, a veteran outfielder, spent nearly five seasons in Oakland from 2018 until midway through 2022 before being released due to struggles in the majors. Following his release, he briefly joined the Reds and then played in the Triple-A for the remainder of the year. In the offseason prior to the 2023 season, Piscotty signed a minor league deal with the White Sox, where he played 51 games for their Triple-A affiliate but did not receive a call-up to the majors despite displaying strong plate discipline.
Returning to the Athletics on a minor league deal for the 2024 season, Piscotty has been in the minor league camp for the past few weeks, and his return to an A’s uniform is anticipated by fans.

Alongside Piscotty, prospect Armando Alvarez will start at third base, showcasing impressive performance this spring with a batting average of .438 across 12 games.
Tyler Soderstrom, who will be starting at first base, faces pressure to improve his performance at the plate as his future as a catcher is uncertain due to defensive struggles and competition from Shea Langeliers. Right-hander Ross Stripling is set to make his third spring appearance, aiming for a rebound after a tough outing against the Brewers. He will go up against Joe Musgrove, the Padres right-hander, who is seeking to regain form after dealing with shoulder issues last season. Despite struggling in his two spring appearances, Musgrove may find the Athletics offense as an opportunity to regain confidence.
