BREAKING NEWS: Texas Rangers’ Top Prospect To Make Team’s Roster Out of Spring Training
Wyatt Langford, selected as the No. 4 pick by the Texas Rangers in the 2023 MLB Draft, is reportedly in contention to secure a spot on the team’s Opening Day roster despite having played only 44 minor league games.
General Manager Chris Young noted on Saturday that Langford has made a strong case for himself to be included on the roster, although no definitive decision has been made yet.
According to updates from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal, Langford has been impressing during spring training, leading in various statistical categories such as slugging percentage (.806) and RBI (14), and boasting a strong batting average (.361), which places him among the top performers.
While Langford’s potential inclusion on the roster wouldn’t be entirely unexpected considering his standout performance in spring training, it is remarkable considering his limited experience in the minor leagues. Despite playing just 44 games, he swiftly progressed from rookie ball to Triple-A by the end of 2023, consistently delivering strong performances with a batting average of .360 and hitting 10 home runs.
Langford, ranked as the No. 6 prospect in baseball, is praised for his exceptional power at the plate, displaying an effortless right-handed swing that allows him to generate power to all fields. He is projected to be a consistent hitter with a batting average around .280 and the capability of hitting 35 or more home runs per season. Additionally, Langford demonstrates sound decision-making at the plate, exhibiting good control of the strike zone by walking more than he strikes out.
Langford is anticipated to join fellow Rangers outfielder Evan Carter on the roster, forming a potent offensive duo alongside Adolis Garcia.
The Rangers, who clinched the World Series title in 2023, are set to kick off the season on March 28.
