The Seattle Seahawks entered the offseason with a pressing need for assistance on their offensive line, and they took steps to address this by re-signing George Fant, a familiar figure to the team. Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 322 pounds, Fant originally joined the Seahawks in 2016 as an undrafted player from Western Kentucky.

During his debut season, he participated in 14 games, starting in 10 of them. Over the following two seasons, he continued to contribute, starting in seven games each year. His performance caught the attention of the New York Jets, who secured him with a lucrative three-year contract worth $30 million in 2020 free agency.

After serving as a starting tackle for the Jets for three seasons, he spent the last season with the Houston Texans, starting in 13 of the 16 games he played. Now at the age of 31, Fant has returned to Seattle, reportedly signing a two-year deal worth $14 million with a signing bonus of $3.7 million.

Throughout his career, Fant has demonstrated versatility by occasionally playing as a guard and even featuring as a tight end in specific formations during his initial tenure with the Seahawks, where he notably caught a pass during a Monday Night Football game in 2018.

The Seahawks are considering how this versatility can factor into his role, particularly since they have young talents like Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas designated as tackles following the 2022 NFL Draft.

Seattle’s general manager and president of football operations shed light on Fant’s role for the upcoming 2024 season during an interview with Seattle Sports’ Wyman and Bob.

They praised Fant’s performance in Houston and emphasized his ability to play both left and right tackle positions, along with some experience at guard. Described as a great competitor and well-liked individual, Fant is anticipated to serve as a utility offensive tackle, capable of filling various roles as needed.
