LATEST REPORT: Toon eyeing bargain move for Geordie star wanted by Spurs, Man City and Liverpool
According to The Chronicle, senior scout Mick Tait from Newcastle United was keeping a close eye on Sunderland’s rising star, Chris Rigg, during the weekend.
Lee Ryder, the reporter, highlights that the 16-year-old England youth international has sparked significant interest and could potentially be acquired for a modest compensation package this summer if he opts against signing a professional contract with Sunderland.
Rigg made an appearance for the last 30 minutes of Saturday’s Championship match at the Stadium of Light, which ended in a 0-0 draw against QPR, a team that included former Newcastle players Isaac Hayden and Jack Colback.
Hailing from a family of Newcastle supporters, Rigg himself is a lifelong fan of the Toon. He has made 13 appearances in the Championship this season, finding the net once, and also represents England at the U18 level.

The report from The Chronicle mentions that Manchester City, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur are all showing interest in the talented midfielder. However, given his ties to Newcastle and the recent opportunities given to Lewis Miley, there’s optimism that Newcastle could have an advantage if a potential move in the summer materializes.
