BREAKING NEWS: James Franklin Revealed His True Relationship With Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren, hailing from Atlee High School in Mechanicsville, Virginia, initially committed to Virginia Tech but eventually chose to join Penn State in July 2019. Although he played as a quarterback in high school, his imposing 6’5’’ stature and potential for significant physical development led to his recruitment as a tight end for Penn State, alongside NFL prospect Theo Johnson.
During the pandemic-affected season, Warren had limited participation, but he showcased his versatility in 13 games in 2021. Notably, he scored two touchdowns in the Wildcat formation and caught a short touchdown pass against Michigan.
In the following year, his role expanded further, starting three games and making impactful plays, including setting up the game-winning touchdown against Purdue and securing a 38-yard touchdown against Minnesota. Despite sharing playing time with Johnson and Brenton Strange, Warren made crucial contributions.
In the most recent season, Warren demonstrated his potential, despite sharing time with Johnson, earning recognition from both coaches and media with Third-Team All-Big Ten and Honorable Mention respectively. Starting in 12 of 13 games, he amassed 422 yards and seven receiving touchdowns, contributing to Penn State’s status as the team with the most touchdowns by a tight end in 2023.
While Warren’s on-field performance is noteworthy, his leadership off the field is equally promising. Expected to mentor younger players such as Khalil Dinkins, Jerry Cross, Andrew Rappleyea, and newcomer Luke Reynolds, Warren’s leadership qualities are highly anticipated, especially considering his recognition as a lead-by-example player by Coach James Franklin.
Warren’s commitment to the team’s success and his focus on academic excellence, earning Academic All-Big Ten honors for three consecutive years, further highlight his value to the team beyond his on-field contributions.
As the undisputed leader of the tight end group this spring, Warren’s influence both on and off the field is eagerly awaited.
