In 2024, K’Von Wallace will not play for the Tennessee Titans again. How does that affect the defense strategy?

K’Von Wallace, the safety, will not be rejoining the Tennessee Titans for the upcoming season. Instead, he will be signing a one-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks, as reported by Tom Pelissero.

During the latter part of the 2023 season, Wallace delivered strong performances for the Titans. Acquired off waivers after the Kevin Byard trade, he played a crucial role in stabilizing the defensive backfield. From Week 11 onwards, Wallace received an overall defensive grade of 75.9 from Pro Football Focus.

Particularly noteworthy was Wallace’s effectiveness in coverage when Amani Hooker was sidelined due to injury. The former Clemson standout earned an impressive coverage grade of 77.9, allowing only 7.5 yards per reception. He surrendered just one touchdown and managed two passes defensed.

It was anticipated that the Titans wouldn’t retain Wallace once he became a free agent. However, General Manager Ran Carthon faces a significant gap in the roster, particularly opposite Hooker. Additionally, another free agent safety, Terrell Edmunds, is not expected to return.

Although the Titans have shown interest in Marcus Maye and Justin Simmons, neither has committed to a contract with the team yet. Elijah Molden remains the only other safety on the roster, primarily serving as a third-safety/nickel hybrid. Consequently, the Titans must now actively seek a veteran replacement to officially fill Wallace’s position.
