BREAKING NEWS: Mike Macdonald Declares Seahawks Starter For 2024 Season
“In the NFL, without a distinct identity, a team is at risk of failure, and this is precisely what Mike Macdonald, the new head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, aims to avoid as he leads the team in his inaugural season.
Does Mike Macdonald expect a QB competition? “l don’t. I’ve talked to Geno about it. Very confident in Geno. Geno’s going to be our starter. Sam (Howell) knows he’s going to be our backup, but Sam is a great young player, and he’s got a really bright future that we believe in.” https://t.co/qrVRklWtZL

Macdonald emphasized the importance of the team developing its unique identity under the new coaching regime, with a particular focus on the quarterback position.
Despite speculation about a potential quarterback competition following the acquisition of former Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell, Macdonald dismissed such notions. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Macdonald stated, ‘Geno will be our starting quarterback. Sam understands he will serve as backup, but we recognize Sam’s talent and believe in his promising future.'”
For the past couple of years, Geno Smith has served as the starting quarterback for this team and has seen a remarkable resurgence in his career during his 30s. This resurgence is particularly notable considering the recent trade involving Howell, which initially suggested Smith might have a chance to start in Seattle, but Macdonald swiftly dismissed that possibility.
Smith’s performance in the past year has been commendable, marked by 20 touchdown passes and only nine interceptions. He is now entering the second year of his three-year, $75 million contract extension, which he signed before last season.
Macdonald, on the other hand, spearheaded a formidable Ravens defense last season, which topped the league by allowing just 16.5 points per game. In contrast, Seattle struggled defensively, ranking among the NFL’s worst with 23.6 points per game allowed.
