REPORT: Vincent Kompany stays true to his word after being quizzed about Nottingham Forest’s points deduction

Vincent Kompany is steadfastly keeping his focus on Burnley’s affairs, as promised, rather than being entangled in the latest points deduction controversy. Following their recent triumph against Brentford, the Clarets are now just five points behind safety with nine games remaining.

This gap was further narrowed after Nottingham Forest incurred a four-point deduction for breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations, consequently slipping into the relegation zone beneath Luton Town. Forest became the second top-flight club to face such a penalty, with Everton previously docked 10 points in November by an independent panel, later reduced to six upon appeal. Considering Everton’s subsequent second charge, there’s a tangible chance that Burnley may find themselves even closer to safety in the coming weeks.

Despite the ongoing points deductions saga, Kompany, as he has done throughout the season, chose to deflect from the topic when questioned about it.

“These are matters beyond my control, so I don’t dwell on them,” he stated. “As long as external factors like referee decisions or VAR don’t impede our point accumulation, it’s not my concern. My focus lies solely on what my team needs to do.”

With Forest already indicating their intent to appeal their deduction, coupled with the potential outcome of Everton’s second hearing, there’s a likelihood that the season may conclude before both cases are resolved.

Asked about any concerns regarding the possibility of a team facing relegation after the completion of all fixtures, Kompany replied, “Honestly, I’m not sure. I’d defer that question to [chief operating officer] Matt Williams or our chairman! I’m completely in the dark on this matter. It’s something that will remain unresolved until the final match of the season.”

Burnley is scheduled to face Everton at Goodison Park next week, while Forest is yet to visit Turf Moor.
