Georgia secured its sixth commitment for the 2025 class on Friday when Mason Short, a 4-star offensive lineman from Evans, Georgia, announced his decision to join the Bulldogs. Standing at 6 feet 5.5 inches and weighing 305 pounds, Short opted for Georgia over offers from Clemson, Ohio State, and several others. His commitment marks the first offensive lineman pickup for Georgia assistant Stacy Searels in the 2025 recruitment cycle.

Short shared insights into his recent visit to Georgia, stating, “I had meetings with Coach Smart and Coach Searels. The big thing on that visit is we watched film, and they tried to see how I thought. Let me be the coach for a second. Coach Searels wants guys in his room to say the things he’s thinking.

So he tested it.” He further explained, “We watched the run-game period, the inside run. He gave me, legit, the entire playbook. I had 10 minutes to learn UGA’s run offense, the categories they go by.

He got me on a wall to reference, trying to test my football IQ. After that, we did that for like 30 minutes. He was loving it, and I was loving it. This is awesome. These coaches have been around for so long that they know how to dissect it in a way to make me understand. So just going through that, of course I got stuff wrong only have 10 minutes to learn the playbook, but doing that and having this mutual agreement that I did what you asked. It was pretty cool.”

Describing Short’s playing style, it’s noted that he is a “big-bodied offensive lineman with tackle experience who could potentially provide roster versatility, but may project best in the long run to the interior.” Additionally, he demonstrates above-average movement ability, particularly in pulling and reaching the second level effectively. While he displays promising drive-blocking skills, there’s room for improvement in initial hand strength and punch.

Despite occasional compromises in leverage, he maintains adequate foot quickness in pass protection scenarios. Furthermore, his athletic background in shot put and discus provides additional context to his capabilities. Overall, Short presents a legitimate prospect for Power Five offensive line roles, likely fitting into right tackle or guard positions with the potential to become a reliable starter at the collegiate level.
