BREAKING NEWS: Newcastle United now want to sign up a Star Player after unexpected twist – sources
Newcastle United is reportedly eyeing a summer move for Crystal Palace center-back Marc Guehi following an unforeseen injury crisis, as per sources from Football Insider.
With Sven Botman undergoing anterior cruciate ligament surgery last month and Jamaal Lascelles suffering a similar injury during Saturday’s clash with West Ham, Newcastle finds themselves depleted in defense. Consequently, they are now strategizing to secure defensive reinforcements during the summer transfer window.
According to Football Insider, Eddie Howe and his recruitment team are aiming to acquire two central defenders in the upcoming transfer window to address the current shortage in their defensive lineup.
Newcastle plot Guehi deal despite big-money Crystal Palace demands
Guehi has emerged as a prime target for Newcastle United following his impressive performances for Crystal Palace since his move from Chelsea in 2021.
Reports suggest that Palace will demand a significant fee to even entertain the idea of letting go of the talented England international. However, Newcastle is considering a major overhaul of their defense and could be prepared to greenlight a substantial transfer deal.
With nine caps for his country, Guehi has been a consistent presence on the field, making 26 appearances across all competitions in the 2023-24 season, featuring in the starting lineup for 24 of those matches. Although he sustained a knee injury in February, which may keep him out until the end of April, he is expected to regain fitness in time for the European Championships in Germany this summer.
While Guehi’s contract with Crystal Palace, which has not been extended since his arrival at the club, is set to expire in June 2026, he remains just five games away from reaching the milestone of 100 Premier League appearances during his tenure with the Eagles.
In related news, Newcastle United is reportedly preparing to initiate discussions regarding a potential deal for a midfielder.
