BREAKING: Bills To Land Another Sensational WR In Blockbuster Deal Shortly After Stefon Diggs Trade
This offseason poses a significant challenge for the Buffalo Bills as they strive to fill the void left by both of their top wide receivers from the previous season.
The Bills witnessed Gabe Davis, their No. 2 wide receiver, depart in free agency, and subsequently engaged in a blockbuster trade with the Houston Texans, sending away their No. 1 receiver, Stefon Diggs. General manager Brandon Beane has implied the possibility of acquiring another experienced player through free agency. However, the most promising avenue for securing a game-changing receiver may lie in the upcoming NFL Draft.
According to Max Chadwick from Pro Football Focus, the Bills are likely to use their first-round pick to select a promising yet unpolished wide receiver with the potential to evolve into a suitable replacement for Diggs.
‘Desperate’ Bills Take a Swing at Wide Receiver
Chadwick foresees the Bills selecting Texas wide receiver Adonai Mitchell with the No. 29 overall pick, describing him as one of the most athletically gifted receivers in this year’s draft class. The PFF writer emphasized Mitchell’s potential compatibility with Bills quarterback Josh Allen.
“Given the Bills’ urgent need to bolster their receiving corps following the trade of Stefon Diggs to the Texans, Adonai Mitchell emerges as a promising prospect with significant upside due to his athleticism, albeit requiring further refinement to maximize his potential,” Chadwick noted. “Josh Allen’s quarterbacking prowess could be instrumental in aiding Mitchell’s development.”

Lance Zierlein, NFL.com draft analyst, described Mitchell as a prospect on the rise but highlighted areas in need of improvement in his game.
“While Mitchell shows promise, his route running currently lacks the precision and consistency required. However, he demonstrates agility and explosiveness when breaking, which should not be underestimated,” Zierlein remarked. “Mitchell displays toughness after the catch and possesses the potential to excel across all three levels of the field. His transition from a WR2 to a WR1 could hinge on his dedication and eagerness to refine the rough edges of his skill set.”
Bills Not Pressing for Wide Receiver
While several analysts, like Chadwick, anticipate the Bills selecting a receiver with their first-round pick, Beane emphasized the team’s commitment to selecting the best available player.
“At pick 28, if all our top-rated receivers are off the board and the next available player is projected for the second round, we’ll pivot to other positions. Our priority is always selecting quality football players,” Beane stated via the team’s official website.
Beane also mentioned that if the desired receiver isn’t attainable in the draft, they can explore free agency to add a veteran presence.
“We’ll continue to explore available veterans. If there’s someone who fits our criteria, we’ll consider adding them,” he explained. “We’ll evaluate our draft board, prioritize prospects, and assess them in relation to the receiver position.”
Additionally, the Bills are expected to increase the involvement of third-year receiver Khalil Shakir, who exhibited significant improvement in his second season, tallying 39 receptions for 611 yards and two touchdowns.
