The Phoenix Suns are reportedly finalizing their 15-man playoff roster by signing Isaiah Thomas for the remainder of the season, as per The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Thomas, currently on his second 10-day contract with the Suns (46-32), has garnered praise from several players and coaches for the leadership he brings. With only four regular-season games left, Phoenix is securing their roster for the playoffs.

Devin Booker, star guard of the Suns, lauded Thomas as the “ultimate teammate” and “ultimate hooper,” expressing high respect for him both on and off the court. Thomas, a 12-year veteran, is set to head to his first playoffs since the 2016-17 season, showcasing memorable performances during his time with the Boston Celtics.

Despite limited playing time for the Suns, averaging 1.3 points on 33.3% shooting in 3.5 minutes across four appearances, Thomas has made a significant impact with his presence alone.

Coach Frank Vogel emphasized Thomas’s role for depth, stating that he won’t be in the rotation when the team is at full strength. Nevertheless, Thomas remains ready to contribute whenever called upon, emphasizing his readiness to make an impact on and off the court.

The 35-year-old Thomas rejoins the Suns after a stint with the G-League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, where he showcased his scoring prowess, averaging 33 points per game across four contests.

This marks Thomas’s second stint with the Suns, having previously been acquired in a sign-and-trade with the Sacramento Kings in 2014. Despite only playing half a season with the Suns before being traded to the Celtics, Thomas averaged 15.2 points, 3.7 assists, and 1.0 steals per game.

Throughout his NBA career, Thomas has maintained an average of 17.5 points in 554 games and earned two All-Star appearances, both during his tenure with the Celtics.

With a firm belief in his abilities and a readiness to contribute positively, Thomas aims to make a meaningful impact during his time with the Suns, further solidifying his reputation as a respected veteran presence in the league.
