Report: Duke men’s basketball star reveals he wans to enter transfer portal
The first domino has fallen as sophomore center Christian Reeves has announced his decision to enter the transfer portal. Reeves, who redshirted this season due to a lingering ankle injury that required surgery, intends to preserve his remaining three years of eligibility by seeking opportunities at another program.
Throughout his tenure at Duke, Reeves faced challenges in securing significant playing time, often playing behind prominent post players such as Dereck Lively II, Kyle Filipowski, and Ryan Young. When he did see the court, Reeves primarily contributed in a supporting role, providing relief for the starters while maintaining size in the paint. Over his two seasons with Duke, Reeves averaged 1.6 points and 1.1 rebounds per game across 16 total appearances.

Reeves’ decision to transfer marks the first departure for Duke this offseason following their Elite Eight defeat against N.C. State. It also represents the inaugural outgoing transfer under head coach Jon Scheyer’s leadership. With Duke’s incoming class boasting a talented roster of big men, including top recruit Cooper Flagg, projected lottery pick Khaman Maluach, and four-star newcomer Patrick Ngongba II, Reeves’ opportunities for playing time in the upcoming 2024-25 season appeared limited.
The program has yet to respond to inquiries regarding Reeves’ decision.
