BREAKING: Georgia Loses An Offensive Piece To The New Spring Transfer Portal
Despite their dominance in college football over the past three seasons, even the Georgia Bulldogs, a school that has secured two of the last National Championships, are not immune to players entering the transfer portal. With the spring transfer portal opening on Monday, the Bulldogs witnessed two of their players opting to explore new opportunities.
Georgia Sees Andrew Paul Hit The Portal
Earlier in the day, running back Andrew Paul made the decision to enter the transfer portal, marking the first Bulldog offensive player to do so on Monday afternoon.
Braxton Hicks Enters The Portal
It seems Braxton Lee Hicks, a Georgia native and junior wide receiver, took to the social media platform X to express gratitude towards the University of Georgia and its fans. He announced his decision to enter the transfer portal as a graduate transfer with two years of eligibility remaining. Despite being in his junior season, Hicks has had limited playing time since arriving at Georgia.
It’s likely that Hicks waited to assess how spring practices would unfold before making his decision. Upon realizing that his playing time would likely be limited, he opted to join the transfer portal to explore other opportunities.
The Spring Portal Is Different Than The Winter Portal For SEC Players
That’s a crucial point about the timing and rules of the transfer portal, especially in the SEC. It’s true that entering the spring portal in the SEC restricts players from transferring to another SEC school and being eligible to play immediately.
Given Hicks’ limited playing time at Georgia and the desire to see more action on the field, it makes sense that he’s likely considering opportunities outside of the SEC. Moving to a smaller school could provide him with the chance to showcase his talents and contribute more significantly to a team’s success, which might not have been possible during his time with the Bulldogs.
