Should the Mets contemplate acquiring the All-Star starting pitcher? The New York Mets are gaining momentum this season.

Paul Blackburn strikes out seven vs. the Cardinals

Despite a slow start, they’ve won 10 of their last 13 games, largely due to solid pitching, as their offense hasn’t quite met expectations. If their offense picks up, the Mets could contend for a postseason spot and possibly make a deep run.

Unlike last season, where they were sellers, if the Mets continue their success, they might become buyers around the trade deadline. One potential target is Paul Blackburn of the Oakland Athletics, as suggested by Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly.

Blackburn, an All-Star in 2022, has been performing exceptionally well in 2024. While he may not bring the impact of past trade acquisitions like CC Sabathia, he could bolster the Mets’ rotation for a playoff push. With a 1.08 ERA and solid performance, Blackburn aligns with the Mets’ strategy of investing in cost-effective players with high potential.
