BREAKING: Seahawks Eyeing Additional Draft Picks
The Seahawks made a significant acquisition in Leonard Williams during the 2023 trade deadline and have since secured him with a three-year contract. While this bolstered their defensive line, it cost them their second-round pick in the upcoming draft. Currently, Seattle is slated to pick 16th overall and then not again until the 81st pick, leaving them with only five picks outside the top 100. Consequently, they might explore trading down on the first day to accumulate more draft assets for the later rounds.
According to an NFL executive speaking to Jason La Canfora of the Washington Post, Seattle is keen on acquiring additional picks for the 2024 draft. While this could involve trading an established player like D.K. Metcalf, there’s also a possibility of moving down in the draft order to recover some lost value from the Williams trade. General Manager John Schneider has a history of trading down in the first round, having done so five times before.
The Seahawks have been actively evaluating prospects, including edge rushers Jared Verse and Chop Robinson, through local and ‘top 30’ visits. However, defensive tackle Byron Murphy II is often linked with Seattle, projected to be their pick in the middle of the first round.
Despite already having Williams and Dre’Mont Jones on lucrative deals in the defensive interior, Seattle might consider other options with the 16th pick, especially to address their defensive deficiencies from the previous season. With no second-round pick, trading down remains a viable strategy for Schneider, one that wouldn’t be unexpected given his track record.
