Houston has a good shot at securing a top-10 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft courtesy of the Brooklyn Nets. Despite significantly improving their record by 19 wins from the previous season, the Rockets are expected to pick within the top-10, likely at either the 9th or 10th spot. Although the pick isn’t guaranteed yet, there’s a high probability of around 75%. Here are three potential choices for the Rockets with the Brooklyn pick:

Dalton Knecht, Tennessee

A 6-foot-6 shooting guard with impressive athleticism, Dalton Knecht has emerged as one of college basketball’s top scorers this season, averaging 21.7 points per game. What sets him apart is his ability to excel without the ball, a valuable asset for Houston considering they already have strong on-ball scorers like Fred VanVleet, Jalen Green, and Alperen Sengun. Knecht shines when coming off screens, spotting up, and contributing in a controlled manner.

Additionally, despite being 23 on draft night, which may typically be seen as a drawback, this could actually benefit Houston if they are aiming to make a playoff push next season.

Donovan Clingan, UConn

If the Rockets are considering a significant change in their lineup for the 2024-25 season, they might consider recruiting Donovan Clingan from UConn. Standing at an impressive 7-foot-2, Clingan has been a standout big man in college basketball, contributing 9.8 points and 2.1 blocks per game while securing two national titles.

While Clingan’s offensive abilities are limited, particularly in shooting as he is not yet proficient, his exceptional rim-protection skills could compensate for any stylistic mismatch alongside Sengun.

Cody Williams, Colorado

Cody, sibling to OKC Thunder’s standout Jalen Williams, experienced a tumultuous season with the Buffs, yet managed to maintain averages of 11.9 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.6 assists despite enduring several injuries.

There are uncertainties regarding Williams’ potential based on his performance at Colorado. However, his game exhibits a strong connection with passing, defense, and spirited transition play.

He might find a suitable fit in Houston’s lineup as a versatile forward.
