Despite Brock Bowers being heralded as one of the most promising tight end prospects in recent drafts, the Las Vegas Raiders surprisingly weren’t initially associated with him. Robinson pointed out that while the Raiders don’t necessarily need to trade Mayer, given Bowers’ versatility as a potential oversized slot receiver, the addition of Bowers under a new offensive coordinator who favors utilizing two tight ends could make Mayer expendable. Moreover, considering that first-year Raiders GM Tom Telesco wasn’t involved in Mayer’s drafting in 2023, there might be a willingness to move him, especially if it means recouping the draft capital invested in him.
The proposition of receiving a second-round pick in exchange for Mayer could be enticing for the Raiders, as it would essentially equate to reclaiming the value they invested in him. However, indications suggest that the Raiders are leaning towards retaining Mayer, reflecting their confidence in the young tight end’s potential contribution to the team.
