BREAKING NEWS: Adam Schefter Reveals Latest Update On Important Players Contract Talks
The Dallas Cowboys face an uncertain future beyond the upcoming season, largely due to quarterback Dak Prescott’s contract situation. Prescott is under contract for just one more year and would become a free agent in March 2025 if he doesn’t sign an extension before then. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, there has been no “noticeable progress” in contract negotiations between Prescott and the team.
Since taking over as the starting quarterback in 2016, following Tony Romo’s career-ending vertebral compression fracture, Prescott has been the face of the Cowboys franchise. Although he has performed well in the regular season and was briefly a leading MVP candidate in 2023, his playoff performances have been disappointing.
“Dallas and Dak have not made any noticeable progress towards a new deal.”

In both 2021 and 2022, Prescott’s performances in playoff losses to the San Francisco 49ers were underwhelming. Most recently, in January, he threw two early interceptions as Dallas fell behind 27-0 to the Green Bay Packers and ultimately lost 48-32 in the Wild Card round. The Cowboys haven’t reached the NFC Championship Game since 1995, the same year they last won the Super Bowl.
Winning the Super Bowl is the standard of excellence for the Cowboys and their fans, and there are doubts about Prescott’s ability to lead the team to such success. Some believe that unless Prescott performs exceptionally well in the upcoming season’s playoffs, the Cowboys should consider moving on from him and exploring whether backup quarterback Trey Lance can lead the team effectively.
