Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats have secured their eighth transfer portal commitment this offseason, with Farleigh Dickinson’s power forward Ansley Almonor making his commitment to the team official on Thursday.

Almonor, standing at 6-foot-7, finalized his decision after spending time in Lexington earlier in the week. Originally from Spring Valley, New York, he spent his first three college seasons at Fairleigh Dickinson.

During his freshman year in the 2021-22 season, Almonor averaged 3.5 points per game across 24 appearances, earning a four-star rating. His sophomore year saw significant improvement, with averages of 13.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game in 36 appearances, 34 of which he started. He played a pivotal role in leading the Knights to a Northeast Conference tournament title and a memorable upset victory over Purdue in the NCAA Tournament.

This past season, Almonor continued to excel, earning First Team All-NEC honors. Across 32 games and 31 starts, he averaged 16.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game while demonstrating impressive shooting percentages.

Almonor’s addition addresses a frontcourt need for the Wildcats, making him the second power forward to join the roster for the 2024-25 season alongside Wake Forest transfer Andrew Carr.

Fairleigh Dickinson's Ansley Almonor (5) celebrates after hitting a 3-point shot against Texas Southern during a First Four college basketball game in the NCAA men's basketball tournament, Wednesday, March 15, 2023.

With Almonor’s commitment, Kentucky has now filled 11 of its 13 scholarships with a mix of transfers and incoming freshmen. The team remains focused on adding an all-around scorer, with players like Jaxson Robinson, Chaz Lanier, and Wooga Poplar under consideration. These potential additions are currently navigating the NBA Draft process, with a decision deadline looming at the end of May for their return to college basketball.
