“MVS” has departed Buffalo’s arch-rival to support Josh Allen in advancing his performance this season. After a visit on Monday night and Tuesday morning, the Buffalo Bills secured former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling. The Bills have signed Valdes-Scantling to a one-year contract valued at up to $4.5 million, which includes a $1.125 million signing bonus, according to multiple reports.

The full contract details can be found here, as Buffalo used incentives to lower Valdes-Scantling’s cap hit.

This move comes nearly three weeks after the 2024 NFL Draft, during which Buffalo selected wide receiver Keon Coleman with their first pick in the second round. Adding “MVS” after drafting Coleman further strengthens a key pass-catching unit that includes wide receivers Curtis Samuel, Khalil Shakir, and tight ends Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox, providing quarterback Josh Allen with a robust array of options for the upcoming season.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling has recently been a topic of interest among Bills fans, notably Bruce Nolan (@BruceExclusive on X), who mentioned him in a “top remaining free agents” article, emphasizing his veteran presence and field-stretching capabilities.

Why Would Bills Sign Marquez Valdes-Scantling?

The 29-year-old, who played for NC State and USF, spent his first four NFL seasons with the Green Bay Packers after being drafted in the fifth round in 2018. While his career statistics might not stand out to the average fan, his impressive 17.0 yards per reception career average highlights his ability to stretch the field. In 2022 with Kansas City, he came close to 700 yards with 42 receptions and two touchdowns, although he had a down year in 2023 (21-315-1). This recent dip in performance could drive him to make a more significant contribution in Buffalo.

At 29, he may not be expected to suddenly have a breakout season, but he has made some critical catches against the Bills in past seasons. His addition could provide Josh Allen with a diverse offensive look, with multiple receivers capable of stretching the field at any moment.
