BREAKING NEWS: Bills To Add Super WR Hero
The Buffalo Bills have already bolstered their wide receiver corps by signing former Kansas City Chiefs player Marquez Valdes-Scantling. However, a new report suggests they might be interested in adding another former Chiefs wideout to further strengthen their vertical passing game.
According to Bleacher Report, the Bills still have room for improvement in their receiving unit following the departures of Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis this offseason. The report, published before the acquisition of Valdes-Scantling, identified Mecole Hardman as a potential addition who could help address this need.
Adding Hardman would provide the Bills with another speedy, versatile receiver who excels in stretching the field and making big plays downfield. His experience and skill set could be a valuable asset for quarterback Josh Allen and the Bills’ offensive scheme.
Veteran Could Round Out Buffalo’s Receiving Corps
The report highlighted that the Bills made significant efforts to address the losses of Diggs and Davis by selecting Florida State wide receiver Keon Coleman with their top draft pick. It also forecasted an increased role for slot receiver Khalil Shakir after his impressive performance in 2023.
“The Bills’ need at receiver might be slightly exaggerated, as Khalil Shakir was very efficient last season and could have a breakout year after catching 39 of his 45 targets for 611 yards,” the report stated. “If Coleman can develop into a No. 1 receiver, they could form a strong duo.”
The report mentioned that adding Hardman wasn’t essential but could further bolster the passing game.
“Still, adding a low-cost veteran like Mecole Hardman, who serves as an additional vertical threat, wouldn’t hurt,” the report noted.

Hardman, who earned a Pro Bowl spot in his rookie season as a special teams player, was consistent for the Chiefs in his first three NFL seasons, recording 126 receptions for 1,791 yards and 14 touchdowns over 49 games. However, his production declined in subsequent years due to injuries. In 2023, he managed only 15 receptions for 124 yards, including just one catch in five games with the New York Jets before being traded back to the Chiefs in October.
Hardman made a significant comeback, later securing the game-winning touchdown in overtime during the Super Bowl.
Bills Adding Competition at Wide Receiver
The Bills have demonstrated their commitment to adding veteran receivers this offseason by signing former Pittsburgh Steelers and Chicago Bears pass-catcher Chase Claypool, enhancing their depth. They also acquired Mack Hollins, who is anticipated to contribute both offensively and on special teams.
Following the Diggs trade, Bills general manager Brandon Beane addressed the media, stating that the team plans to bolster their wide receiver corps through both the NFL Draft and free agency.
“There are still veterans available. We’ll continue to explore options and see if anyone fits,” he said, as reported on the team’s official website. “We’ll also assess our draft board, ranking the prospects according to our evaluation if we’re discussing the receiver position.”
Beane acknowledged that losing Diggs significantly impacted their talent pool but assured that the team is dedicated to acquiring the necessary pieces for the upcoming season.
“It’s an ongoing process, and we’re committed to it. I want people to know I’m fiercely competitive, and I’m not giving up,” Beane asserted. “I have confidence in our current roster and in our staff who assist me. We will continue to find and add pieces, ensuring we’re ready by September.”
