According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Broncos are adding ex-Bears punter Trenton Gill to their roster.

The Bears parted ways with 25-year-old punter Trenton Gill to make room for Tory Taylor from Iowa, their fourth-round draft pick, who is expected to take over as the team’s primary punter. Taylor, known for his powerful leg, left Iowa with numerous NCAA records, including career average yards per punt (46.3) and total punt yards in a single season (4,479 in 2023). He excels at pinning opponents deep, evidenced by his 32 punts inside the 20-yard line and 29 fair catches induced in 2023. Taylor’s remarkable performance earned him unanimous All-American honors and the prestigious Ray Guy Award for the nation’s top punter last year.

Meanwhile, Gill will vie for the starting punter position with the Broncos during training camp. Last season, Riley Dixon handled punting duties for the Broncos, ranking seventh in total punt yards (3,659) and 14th in net average (42.3 yards) in the league, while also punting 79 times, the sixth-highest in the NFL.

In contrast, Gill’s numbers fell short of those benchmarks. He punted 67 times for 3,088 yards (with a net of 2,547 yards), averaging 38 net yards per punt.

Gill was drafted by the Bears in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft and spent the past two seasons with the team.
