BREAKING NEWS: DL target for the Badgers is transferring to LSU
The Wisconsin Badgers were actively pursuing a defensive lineman through the transfer portal to bolster their current roster. However, their search will continue as Grand Valley State defensive lineman Jay’Viar Suggs, a key target for the Badgers, announced on Wednesday that he is transferring to the LSU Tigers.
Suggs, a 6’3, 285-pound defensive tackle, had ties to Wisconsin through his former teammate Nyzier Fourqurean and head coach Matt Mitchell, who both joined the Badgers last season. Despite these connections, LSU made a strong impression during Suggs’ final visit, ultimately securing his commitment.
Over the past two seasons, Suggs has been productive, recording 42 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, and eight sacks. His addition to LSU leaves Wisconsin without their highly sought-after defensive lineman from the transfer portal.
The Badgers have faced significant losses on their defensive line this offseason, with Rodas Johnson, Isaiah Mullens, Gio Paez, Darian Varner, and others departing from the program. While Wisconsin did add Albany transfer Elijah Hills, who is expected to be in the two-deep rotation, and true freshmen Ernest Willor Jr., Hank Weber, and Dillan Johnson, they are still in need of another experienced, pro-ready player to strengthen their defensive front for the upcoming season.
