BREAKING NEWS: Rangers defeat Guardians to snap a five-game losing streak thanks to another outstanding key man
Jon Gray pitched a stellar game, allowing just four hits into the seventh inning, as the Texas Rangers broke their five-game losing streak with a 4-0 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday night. Marcus Semien and Adolis García each hit two-run homers to power the Rangers’ offense.
Gray (2-1) threw 94 pitches over 6 1/3 innings, allowing only one runner to advance beyond first base. In his eight starts following a rough season debut, where he conceded five runs in 3 2/3 innings, Gray has given up just seven earned runs over 48 1/3 innings.
The defending World Series champion Rangers (23-22) have maintained a record above .500 since Bruce Bochy took over as manager last season. This victory marked their seventh win of the season while being at .500.
Semien’s fifth-inning home run to left field barely cleared the glove of a leaping Estevan Florial. García added to the lead with a sixth-inning homer, his team-leading 10th of the season, after Nick Sandlin, who replaced starter Carlos Carrasco (2-4), walked Nathaniel Lowe to start the inning.
José Leclerc, David Robertson, and Kirby Yates combined to complete the six-hit shutout. Despite leading the AL with 209 runs before Wednesday’s game, Texas had struggled offensively during their losing streak, scoring only 10 runs over the five games.
