REPORT: Steelers and former WR key man are having discussion
The Pittsburgh Steelers are almost certain to add a starting boundary receiver before Week 1, whether through a trade or free agency. While Courtland Sutton and Treylon Burks seem to be logical choices, another intriguing name has emerged.
According to Zachary Smith of Steelers Now, the Steelers have been in contact with former Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas, who is currently a free agent. Thomas had an exceptional two-year stretch in 2018 and 2019, being named All-Pro both years and catching 125 and 149 passes, respectively. His 149 receptions in 2019 set an NFL record for the most catches in a single season.

However, injuries have severely limited Thomas’ availability since 2020, with him playing in only 20 games over the past three seasons. Last season, he managed 39 receptions in 10 games. The 2019 Offensive Player of the Year recently turned 31.
Adding a player of Thomas’ caliber, assuming he can stay healthy, would provide a significant boost to the Steelers’ receiving corps as they prepare for the upcoming season.
