Lanier’s visits come after his participation in the NBA G League Combine in Chicago, where Kentucky head coach Mark Pope observed his performance. Pope also attended the NBA Combine, where UK target and BYU transfer Jaxson Robinson competed.

Lanier spent his first four college seasons at North Florida. As a freshman, he played in 10 games. During his sophomore year in the 2021-22 season, he appeared in 31 games, starting eight, and averaged 4.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game, also securing three steals in a game against Kentucky at Rupp Arena.

In his junior year, Lanier played in 31 games with nine starts, averaging 4.7 points and 2.5 assists. North Florida visited Rupp Arena again, where Lanier scored two points and grabbed two rebounds in another loss.

Lanier had a breakout season this past year, playing in 32 games with 31 starts, and averaged 19.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. He shot 51.0% from the field, 44.0% from three-point range, and 86.4% from the free-throw line. His season highlights included a 35-point game against North Alabama, two 33-point games, a 30-point game, and one double-double.

Kentucky, in search of a versatile scorer, sees Lanier as a potential fit. The Wildcats have signed 11 players for the 2024-25 season, leaving two scholarship spots open, with hopes that either Lanier or Robinson will fill one of them.
