BREAKING: Oklahoma feels good about overall QB key man depth entering SEC
The offseason is in full swing as we eagerly anticipate the start of the 2024 season and Oklahoma’s first year in the SEC. With spring practice now behind us, it’s time to examine each position group for the Sooners and assess their status after Brent Venables’ third spring as head coach. This 11-part series kicks off with a look at the quarterbacks.
As Oklahoma transitions from the Big 12 to the SEC, the responsibility of leading the Sooners’ dynamic offense falls to Jackson Arnold, a former five-star recruit who served as Dillon Gabriel’s backup last season. The Arnold era began unofficially in the Alamo Bowl, where he made his first start and showed potential despite accounting for four of the team’s six turnovers in the loss to Arizona.
This spring, Arnold is focused on moving past his debut and looking ahead as he takes full control of the offense. Brent Venables has made it clear that Arnold is now the face of the program, even with his limited experience. Despite only appearing in seven games last season, Arnold’s talent is undeniable, and he is ready to become the latest in a long line of standout quarterbacks at Oklahoma.
