Dak Prescott is headed toward another lucrative deal, but the Dallas Cowboys quarterback isn’t focused on his next contract.

“I don’t play for money,” Prescott said, according to Patrik Walker of the team’s official website. “I’ve never really cared about it, to be honest. I would give it up just to play this game.”

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport has noted that Prescott is set to complete the final year of his current contract. With a no-tag clause, Prescott is likely to hit the open market. The cost to retain him is rising, with Jared Goff’s recent four-year, $212 million extension setting a standard for Prescott’s negotiations.

“I leave that to the business people to determine what’s appropriate for a quarterback of my performance and leadership,” Prescott said. “For me, it’s about managing what I can and letting the rest take care of itself.”

If Prescott can lead the Cowboys deep into the playoffs, his payday will only grow, making his focus on the season instead of his contract understandable.

Prescott’s confidence in the situation stems from his significant leverage, similar to his last contract negotiations. Currently, he counts $55.4 million against the salary cap, and if he doesn’t re-sign with Dallas in 2025, he would still count $40.14 million against their cap. The no-tag and no-trade clauses give Prescott control over his future.

“Business is business,” Prescott said. “I’ll leave it to those handling it. Right now, my focus is on being my best for the team, in this moment, during OTAs, and supporting these guys. I’m concentrating on that, and I know my business will sort itself out. I’ve been here before, so I’m experienced and just focusing on what I can control right now.”

Prescott is well aware that a substantial payday awaits if he hits the open market. Even a 35-year-old Kirk Cousins, recovering from an Achilles tear, recently secured $100 million guaranteed.
