BREAKING: Rangers’ Jacob Trouba fined $5,000 for Another Brutal Offense
The New York Rangers’ on-ice leader is facing a penalty for his conduct.
On Monday, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced that Rangers captain Jacob Trouba was fined $5,000 for elbowing Florida Panthers forward Evan Rodrigues. This fine is the maximum allowed under the collective bargaining agreement, with the funds going to the players’ assistance fund.
The incident occurred late in the second period of Game 3 of the Eastern Conference final. Rodrigues was attempting to maneuver around Trouba toward the Rangers’ net when the Michigan native struck him in the head with his elbow, leaving Rodrigues on the ice for several minutes.

"He kind of went to the middle. It all happens pretty fast. It’s not something you’re thinking about 1,000 times over and over again. It just happens fast. It’s hockey. I don’t have a great explanation for it."#NYR

The play was reviewed for a major penalty but was downgraded to a two-minute penalty. Trouba also received a minor penalty for slashing Sam Bennett.
The Panthers did not score during the four-minute power play, and Barclay Goodrow scored a shorthanded goal for the Rangers.
