Shohei Ohtani gives Dodgers huge boost as $700m star provides positive update
Shohei Ohtani’s recovery from Tommy John surgery has provided a significant boost for the Dodgers. Despite being unable to pitch this season following the procedure last September, the two-way star has been steadily progressing.
Recently, Ohtani informed reporters that he began throwing from a distance of 60 feet last week, reaching speeds of up to 80 mph. He mentioned his approach of gradually increasing both distance and intensity, aiming for approximately 60 to 70 pitches at the current distance, with plans to further extend both as he progresses.
While Ohtani continues his recovery as a pitcher, he remains a force at the plate. Leading the league with a .336 average and contributing 13 home runs this season, he maintains his prowess as the Dodgers’ designated hitter.
Since his MLB debut in 2018, Ohtani has showcased exceptional abilities both as a hitter and a pitcher, boasting a 3.01 ERA and securing MVP honors in 2021 and 2023.
The Dodgers, benefiting from Ohtani’s contributions, currently lead the National League West Division with a record of 33-22. However, their scheduled game against the Mets on Monday was postponed due to inclement weather.
